In partnership with public libraries, State Library of Queensland (SLQ) has developed three new initiatives in delivering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander library services across Queensland.
Below are case studies outlining the processes undertaken and highlighting the project outcomes, with insights shared by each project team.
In 2015 the Scenic Rim Regional Council, in partnership with SLQ, offered a 4 month library mentorship for an Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander young person to gain work experience at the Beaudesert library.
Forever Stories is a digital storytelling project with Elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from the Bundaberg region delivered in partnership with Bundaberg Libraries and ABC Wide Bay.
FREESTYLE audio was a digital music production program held at Hinchinbrook Shire Council's TYTO from April to July 2014. In partnership with SLQ, TYTO and Hinchinbrook Shire Library held a lyric writing workshop with well-known hip hop artist and arts facilitator Fred Leone.
